Handmade Jewelry Care
To prevent damage to your jewelry, Stungem recommends a few tips to handle your unique pieces with love and care.
Our daily routine makes it hard to wear jewelry while performing some tasks, be it kitchen work, gardening, cleaning the house or other common duties. In this case, it is preferable to remove your jewelry to prevent exposure to chemicals or cleaning fluids.
Cosmetics, hairspray, perfumes and lotion can contain chemicals that can often damage jewelry. This is why you should put on your pieces after you’re done with the hair-makeup process.
Chlorinated water and salt water can cause color changes especially for jewelry with metal parts. It’s always a good idea to remove your jewelry before entering the pool or visiting the beach.
Soap can cause a film to form, making your jewelry appear dull. To prevent this, remove all jewelry before taking a shower.
Polish your pieces with a jewelry polishing cloth for best results. The use of abrasive towels will cause scratches.
Clean your jewelry on a regular basis to keep them lustrous and ready-to-wear.
Store your jewelry ‘separately’ in poly bags, or soft pouches to prevent the pieces from moving around. While fabric-lined jewelry boxes are ideal, any container with a soft, non-abrasive material will do just fine.
Travelling can be tough on jewelry; this is why Stungem recommends a travel case to protect your favorite pieces. Normally the case is made of fabric or leather, and can carry jewelry of all types. The travel case rolls up to a size that’s easily stored in most suitcases. It is certainly a good investment.
